Tourist Visa
Canada Tourist Visa from the UK
What is the Canada Tourist Visa
The Canada tourist visa is called the Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).
It allows visitors to stay in Canada for tourism, visiting family or friends, or attending short business events.
Each stay is normally valid for up to 6 months.
Who Needs to Apply
Non-UK nationals living in the United Kingdom usually need a TRV before travelling to Canada.
UK citizens do not require a visa for short visits, but they may need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
Most international students and foreign residents in the UK must apply for a TRV.
Where to Apply
Applications are submitted online through the IRCC website (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada).
Applicants must also provide biometric data at the Visa Application Centre (VFS Global) in London.
Required Documents
Applicants should prepare:
A valid passport
A valid UK residence permit or BRP card
Completed application forms and recent passport photos
Proof of travel plan such as flight bookings and itinerary
Proof of accommodation such as hotel reservations or invitation letters
Proof of financial means such as recent bank statements
Additional supporting documents such as study or work certificates in the UK
Processing Time
The average processing time is around 4 to 8 weeks.
It is recommended to apply at least two to three months before travel.
Validity of the Visa
The TRV is usually valid for up to 10 years or until the passport expires, but each entry allows a stay of up to 6 months.
The border officer at entry decides the final length of stay.
Tips for a Successful Application
Apply well in advance due to long processing times.
Provide clear proof of ties to the UK, such as enrolment or employment.
Make sure your financial documents are consistent with your travel plans.
Check if you may qualify for an eTA instead of a TRV, depending on your nationality.
